‘The Good Bike Project’ urgently seeking a new home in Dublin

‘The Good Bike Project’ is seeking space for its work which is centred on giving a new lease of life to second hand bicycles for refugees — the group has been based in a business’s yard in west Dublin, working out of four shipping containers, but that site is no longer usable.

The request for a new worksite which would fit the containers was made via the Dublin Cycling Campaign.

The campaign group said: “Many of Dublin Cycling Campaign’s members and friends would know Paul McQuaid who runs The Good Bike Project which is all about refurbishing bikes and providing them to refugees in need. See thegoodbikeproject.com/

“So here’s the story – Paul has given away 3,200 bikes to Ukrainian refugees all throughout Ireland in the past two and a half years. It has cost him a small fortune, and it has put his own business completely on hold, but he is committed to getting more bikes to more people,” the campaign said.

They said that currently McQuaid has a waiting list of over 500 Ukrainians throughout Ireland who have asked for bikes.

“For the last 6-8 months, a company has provided Paul with a space and four containers to work out of at their location in Citywest,” the campaign said. It said that the ownership of the property has recently changed and the new owners are not willing for the arrangement to continue.

“Paul now needs to find a spot to plonk four 40 foot containers,” they said. “The best case scenario is that someone has a space, likes what Paul is doing, and wants to help The Good Bike Project. Ideally he is looking for a long-term solution, but even short term would be brilliant if that’s available.”

A location in or around Dublin is being sought as that is where The Good Bike Project is set up logistically including  the courier company which collects bicycles from then daily and forwards them onto the different corners of the country.

The Dublin Cycling Campaign added: “If you can help Paul out in his moment of need with offers of, or suggestions for, space for his containers, he would love to hear from you! He can be contacted on [email protected].”
