The rerouting of buses off Parliament Street, the last major hurdle to removing general motor traffic from the street, and providing space for people on the street, is expected to happen this month.
Dublin City Council previously promised that the street would be made car-free by the summer, and attendees of the Lord Mayor’s Forum last month were told it should happen as early as May.
It is expected that the street changes also involve finishing the cycling link on Capel Street and across the River Liffey. In effect, such changes would provide a two-way cycle route from the top of Capel Street to Bride Street on the southside.
Dublin Commuters, a sustainable mobility campaign group, said: “The 69 and 69x will be changing their routes from April 13th and will instead go down the quays. These were the last two routes that served Parliament Street, and clears the way for its upgrade project which we expect to begin this summer.”
Dublin Bus said: “We wish to advise customers that Routes 69 and 69x will have a revised route towards Hawkins Street from Sunday 13 April 2025.
The company added: “Routes 69 and 69x will no longer serve stop 2912, Parliament Street and stop 1358 Dame Street. Routes 69 and 69x will now serve stop 7622 Bachelors Walk and stop 7655 Poolbeg Street.
Timetables for the revised Route 69 and the revised Route 69x can be found at DublinBus.ie.
