The Westland Row traffic management measurements, which are part of the Dublin City Centre Traffic Plan, are expected to be implemented by June, Dublin City Council has said.
The traffic plan has been heavily debated and councillors voted to support it and refused to act against it a number of times.
The plan comes from a measure voted on by councillors in the Dublin City Development Plan to reduce car use and promote sustainable transport in the city centre.
In a report to councillors, official said: “The works for traffic management changes at Westland Row are due to start at the end of March and be completed in June. There will be no changes to the current traffic flow arrangement during the works but there will be some disruption during the construction phase.”
The council said that the project team have commenced engagement with local businesses and stakeholders, including calling into businesses and explaining the measures and answering any queries they have.
The report said: “The works are expected to take up to 10 weeks. Once complete the changes will be made which includes a public transport and cycle left turn only from Westland Row to Pearse Street. Private vehicles will not be permitted to turn left. A new right turn from Westland Row to Pearse Street eastbound (towards Ringsend) will be created with the section between Westland Row and Sandwith Street becoming 2 way.”
It added: “All of Westland Row and Pearse Street will still be accessible by all modes with a different approach route being required for
some areas.
The officials said that councillors, residents, businesses and the public will be notified of the date of the changes nearer the time.

Somebody will complain any they will just half ass it, just like last time. There was no noticeable traffic reduction in the city.
