The yearly pandemic of “on your bike” headlines is on its way as Bike Week 2025 is just around the corner, running from Saturday, May 10th to Sunday, May 18th.
As the national launch has yet to happen, only some counties have their details on the national Bike Week webpage at transportforireland.ie, but Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council have announced their contribution to the week, with the support of local groups.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is inviting people of all ages and abilities to participate in the planned events, which include learn-to-cycle workshops, family-friendly cycles, cycle parades, cycling heritage tours, bike safety checks, bike accessory giveaways, a family cycling treasure hunt, and more.
The council said that all events organised by it and independent parties are free; however, places are limited for some events, and advanced booking is recommended. As well as the national webpage, your can also find details at dlrcoco.ie/bike-week-2025.
Cllr Jim O’Leary, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, said: “This exciting week-long event aims to encourage cyclists of all ages and abilities to experience some of the many benefits of cycling. There are a range of fun inclusive events taking place throughout the County this year, and I would encourage people to join in during the week.
He said: “We have events catering for all levels, from the complete beginner to the seasoned cyclist, with events designed to enable people young and old to experience some of the many benefits of cycling, with all events free to attend.”
Frank Curran, chief executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said: “Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council continues to support people to cycle in the County by encouraging people of all ages and abilities to consider sustainable transport modes.”
“These sustainable modes can deliver environmental, health, and economic benefits to both the individual and the community. Bike Week is a great opportunity to experience these benefits first hand and celebrate all things cycling,” he said.
Curran added: “We are delighted to support Bike Week 2025, and hope that people take the opportunity to enjoy some of the wonderful Bike Week events taking place throughout dlr from May 10 until May 18.”
