In numbers: Dublin City Centre Transport Plan

25th of August 2024 — the planned date for the roll-out of the first measure as part of the plan, bus gates at the north and south quays at O’Connell Bridge.

7am and 7pm — the operational hours of the bus gates.

Over 80% — the percentage of Dublin City Council councillors who signed a letter saying they wanted the plan to go ahead.

2 — the number of times councillors blocked attempts by a minority of councillors aimed at delaying the plan.

80% — the percentage of public consultation responds supportive of the plan.

1.4 million — estimated number of people who saw or heard radio, TV, newspaper and online coverage of the traffic plan while the public consultation was on-going.

2% — the percentage of people around O’Connell Bridge who are transported in cars.

60% — percentage of car traffic in the city centre which is through traffic, not stopping at shops or workplaces etc 

200 — the approximate number of cars and other private vehicles per hour on Bachelors Walk.

390 — the approximate number of cars and other private vehicles per hour going straight from Burgh Quay to Aston Quay past O’Connell Bridge.

408 — passenger carrying capacity of a single green line tram.

80-100 — the approximate range of the people carrying capacity of most Dublin Bus vehicles.

0 — the number of car parks which will be blocked by the plan.

€10-20k — the amount of businesses opposing the plan were asked to  contribute towards a legal and PR fight against the traffic plan.

  1. Great simple easy read of the issues around City Centre Transport Plan!
    Pity about the (deliberate) typo that it will run from 7am to 7am! That would make it a 24hour system! We wish!
