In Ireland, a cycle track is the legal name for a range of cycling infrastructure including cycle lanes, segregated cycle lanes, cycle tracks and cycle paths.
These are also commonly interchanged, for example, with people using the term cycle lane for segregated cycle paths.
Cycle routes can often be made up of a number of types of design elements including the below listed and a mix of quiet streets or service streets or bicycle streets or shared paths.
Comment variants include:

Cycle lanes
Cycle lanes are painted lanes on the carriageway.

Protected cycle lanes
Cycle lanes with protection such as bollards or kerbs. These are often part of interim routes.

Cycle tracks
Cycle tracks are raised infrastructure which are at a separate level to both the footpath and carriageway but generally have flat kerbs flush with the cycle track.

Cycle paths
Cycle paths have raised kerbs or buffer areas between the cycle paths and the carriageways. Cycle paths can also be built away from roadways.
