An 18-year-old man was has died in a collision between a car and the bicycle he was cycling near Rosscarberry, Co Cork just after 7pm tonight.
Brian Whelan at the Garda press office said: “At approximately 7.10pm an 18-year-old male pedal cyclist was seriously injured when he was struck by a car at Barley Hill, on the Clonakilty to Skibereen Rd just west of Rosscarberry. He was pronounced dead at the scene, his body has been removed to CUH and a post mortem is expected to be carried out tomorrow morning the 9th March. The driver of the car, a man in his late 60s, was uninjured.”
Gardai said that the road is closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination.
Witnesses, particularly anyone who was on the Clonakilty to Skibereen Road between 6.30pm and 7.10pm this evening, are asked to contact Clonakilty Garda station on 023 8821570, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
