Gardai call for witnesses after death of man in his 60s out cycling

Gardaí based in Listowel are seeking witnesses after a man in his 60s was found on a rural road on Wednesday and died in hospital in the early hours of Thursday.

Sean Mac Seoin of the Garda press office said: “On Wednesday shortly after 5pm Gardaí and Emergency Services were called when a male cyclist was found lying on the road at Colkeragh on the R552 between Ballylongford and Listowel. The injured man removed by helicopter to University Hospital Limerick where he was later pronounced dead in the early hours of Thursday.”

He added: “Following a post-mortem examination earlier today Gardaí investigating the circumstances of the man’s death have appealed for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact Listowel Garda Station 068-50820 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.”

Gardai have indicated that the man may have fallen from his bicycle and that a hit and run is not suspected at this time.
