A 47-year-old mother of two was killed this afternoon in a collision with a driver of a car on the N71 in Co Cork.
Skibbereen Gardaí are investigating the collision in which the woman was killed. It happened at around 1pm on the N71 in the townland of Aghills, Skibbereen, Co Cork. It is understood that the woman was cycling to see her mother in Skibbereen hospital.
Margaret Flanagan at the Garda press office said: “A woman pedal cyclist was fatally injured when in collision with a car. The driver of the car, a woman in her late 50s was uninjured. The body of the deceased has been removed to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will take place.”
She added: “Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are at scene and the road is currently closed to facilitate the examination of the scene and local traffic diversions are in place.”
“Gardaí in Skibbereen are appealing to any persons who may have travelled the road this afternoon or who can assist Gardaí in the investigation to contact them at Clonakilty Garda Station on 023 – 8821570, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
