  1. The need for cycling and pedestrian infrastructure, that would facilitate and encourage the elderly and very young to go about their daily living, is stark.
Yet another bicycle user dies on a road adapted for nothing more than motorised vehicles.
We will be shamed and judged in the future on how poorly we cater for the infirm and disadvantaged in our country.
Almost all small towns provide almost no public WCs in public parks, spaces for securing bicycles are minimal, litter bins and (resting) benches are largely nonexistent.
The individualistic attitude of our nation is bred and encouraged by leaders who pander to basic survival instincts, for votes, with little or no regard for the well-being of all.
Until we are led by the sincere, the courageous and the fair minded our quest for a society catering for bicycle users and pedestrians and the general well-being of the nation, we will be waiting.
My thoughts are with the family of the man who died yesterday whilst using his bike.

  2. Cian – Do Garda PO say whether or not the driver remained at the scene?
They normally state that the driver was uninjured, as an aside.
This is the 7th fatality for 2020.
According to Garda RPU, that’s 33 people outside cars have been killed by drivers so far this year.
An appalling vista for a Vision Zero strategy.
