— Incident is third hit-and-run in a week where people on bicycles were injured.
Gardai are seeking wittinesses and camera footage to a hit and run in which a driver left a woman knocked off her bike with serious injuries on Wednesday in Dublin.
It is the third reported hit-and-run collision in the last week involving people on bicycles in Ireland, the two others were in Meath and central Dublin.
Colin Heeney at the Garda press office said: “Gardaí are investigating a hit and run incident, involving a cyclist and a car, that occurred on the Cheeverstwon Road at the junction with Fortunestown Way, Tallaght, Dublin 24, on 16/06/2021 at 8.30am.”
“It is reported a black VW Passat car collided with the cyclist and failed to remain at the scene. The cyclist, a woman aged in her 20s, was taken to Tallaght University Hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries,” he said.
He added: “Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Gardaí are particularly interested in speaking to any witness or road users who may have camera footage (dash-cam) and were in the area between 8am – 9am. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí in Tallaght on 01 666 6000 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.”
Thanks for flagging all incidents like this, Cian. But how interesting the use of language in the original report. So a ‘car’ collided with the woman on the bike. No mention of a driver or motorist. I guess it must have been Christine, Stephen King’s spooky self-driving car. Or maybe KITT from Knight Rider, going off on a solo driverless jaunt.
Worth flagging that again.
Sorry, I should have said *original Garda statement* (not ‘original report’). In the interests of ensuring accurate language…
The standard of driving, since the return after lock-down has been insane. Today alone I had to swerve out of the way of appallingly dangerous driving on about a dozen occasions,.
