Woman in her 50s knocked off her bicycle in collision involving car driver

A woman in her 50s was injured when she was knocked off her bicycle by a car driven by a motorist last week in Rathfarnham, Dublin.

The collision happened at the roundabout where the following roads intersect: Ballyboden Road, Ballyboden Way, Taylor’s Lane, and Edmondstown Road. The roundabout has unprotected painted cycle lanes.

The woman remained on the ground in the middle of an exit of the roundabout for some time as emergency services tended to her. The extent of the woman’s injuries is unknown, Gardai described them as non-life threatening injuries.

A spokesperson at the Garda Press Office said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 11:15am on the 20th of September 2022 on Ballyboden Way, Rathfarnham, Dublin City.”

He added: “A vehicle and a bicycle were involved in this collision. The cyclist, a woman aged in her 50s, was conveyed to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained as a result of this collision.”

  1. That’s not a safe junction. If I can I avoid using it. Nowhere as dangerous as the Spawell Roundabout is to any user whether van or bicycle, but not a good design. Hope the lady returns to cycling.
