Young adult on e-bike dies after hitting a pillar in west Dublin housing estate

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this collision to come forward after a young adult on a electric bike died after hitting a pillar last night in a housing estate in west Dublin.

According to Gardaí, the incident happened in the vicinity of MacUilliam Heights, in a housing estate off the Fortunestown Lane in Tallaght.

Both RTE and Independent.ie this morning reported that the young man was on an electric bicycle.

The Garda Press Office said: “Gardaí attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision in the Fortunestown Lane area, Tallaght, Dublin 24 yesterday evening, Wednesday 7th June 2023 at approximately 10.30pm.”

“A male cyclist (aged in his late teens) was seriously injured when he collided with a pillar in a residential area. Emergency services attended the scene and the man was taken to Tallaght University Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased,” the statement said.

The Garda Press Office said that no other vehicles were involved in the collision and a technical examination of the scene was completed by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators yesterday evening.

The statement added: “Anyone who was in the vicinity of Mac Uilliam Heights in Tallaght yesterday evening between 10pm and 10.45pm and who may have camera footage (including mobile phone and dash-cam) is asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.”
