Friends of a Brazilian woman, who is in an induced coma after a collision involving another cyclist, have started a GoFundMe page to help support her.
The woman who was injured, Gabriella Saab, was cycling when she was in a collision with another cyclist on the Botanic Road, in Glasnevin on Monday at around 10am.
Gardaí on Monday made an appeal for witnesses or anyone with camera footage to contact Mountjoy Garda Station on 01 666 8600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
The Garda Press Office said that Gabriella was taken to Mater Hospital and treated for injuries believed to be serious at this time. She was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital.
Gardaí also said that the other cyclist, described as a male, suffered from injuries which they said were believed to be non-life-threatening.
Camila Longo, who is organising the fundraiser, told IrishCycle.com today that Gabriella is in a stable critical condition in the ICU in Beaumont.
Camila, who is a friend of Gabriella, wrote on the GoFundMe page: “As many of you already know, Gabi was in a bicycle accident yesterday (September 18th) and suffered a head injury that required surgery. She is currently hospitalized and in stable condition, but in an induced coma to aid in her 100% recovery.”
The GoFundMe page has had over 300 donations with nearly €5,800 raised of the €15,000 target.
“We are launching this fundraising campaign with the goal of supporting Gabi in covering the various costs associated with her recovery, including hospital expenses, medications, rent, grocery bills, and even her father’s journey from Brazil to Ireland to be by her side,” she said.
She added: “Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in Gabi’s life during this challenging time. Additionally, please send your positive energy, vibes, and lots of love, as the strength of everyone is essential and will make a difference. Let’s come together and show how much we care about Gabi. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated.”
