A man in his 60s who was cycling suffered serious injuries in a collision involving a car driver between Battlebridge and Leitrim Village, Co Leitrim yesterday after 2pm.
The injuries are serious enough for the main to be transferred to hospital in Dublin and for the road to remain closed today for investigation.
The Garda Press Office said: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision involving a car and a pedal cyclist, which occurred on the R284 between Battlebridge and Leitrim Village, Co. Leitrim, yesterday, Tuesday 19th December, shortly after 2pm.”
The main was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin for treatment of what was described this morning as serious injuries.
Gardaí said that the road is currently closed for technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
“Garda are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in this area between 1:30pm and 2.30pm on Tuesday 19th December are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí,” the Garda Press Office said.
