Another motorist — this time in Cork — has received points and a fine from Gardai for poorly overtaking a person on a bicycle.
The incident happened leaving Carrigaline at the relief road roundabout in April 2019. According to the cyclist involved, the Gardai said that motorist was fined 3 penalty points and €80.
It happened before the new law for dangerously overtaking cyclists, which comes with a higher fine of €120 as well as three penalty points, was introduced by transport minister Shane Ross. The points and fine were issued before this week, but the Gardai delayed updating the cyclist and apologised for such:
