Two walking and cycling infrastructure-related webinars are to be held in the next few weeks, both are hosted by Engineers Ireland and are free to register.
National Development Plan
The first one is part of a series on the National Development Plan with the topic of ‘Engineering for Sustainable Mobility’ it will be held on January 27 and run from 6-8pm. You can register here.
Speakers to include:
- Dr Brian Caulfied, Centre for Transport Research at Trinity College Dublin, presenting on the environmental impacts of transport and methods to reduce carbon impacts of transport;
- Andreas Nikiforiadis, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas, presenting on a pilot bike sharing scheme in Thessaloniki; and
- Sébastien Marrec, City of Paris, presenting on the city’s cycling policies and projects.
Urban Roads and Streets Design Series
The second webinar is the start of the Urban Roads and Streets Design Series is to run on February 10 from midday to 1.30pm. It is to include the series introductions, overview, policy background and perspectives on the design manual usually referred to as DMURS. You can register here.

Interesting – given the gender-specific nature of many obstacles to cycling that women face, and the specific way women can be bullied off their bikes – that no women are speaking at either of these events.
