50-year-old knocked off bicycle, seriously injured in collision with car driver in Galway

A man in his 50s was knocked off his bicycle and seriously injured in a collision with a car driver at Powers Cross, around 10km west of Portumna, Co, Galway, this morning.

Kyle Stewart at the Garda press office said: “Monday 31st January 2022. At approximately 6:15am a cyclist was seriously injured when he was struck by a car at Powers Cross, Ballyshrule, Portumna, Co Galway. The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was taken to University Hospital Galway to be treated where he is currently in a serious condition.”

Gardai said that road was closed for some time to allow for a technical examination to be carried out by Forensic Collision Investigators.

He added: Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and are also appealing to any road users with video footage from the location between 6:00 – 6:30am to make it available to them.
