ESB eBikes expands payment options for on-street rental service

News in brief: ESB eBikes, which are rentable on-street from a limited number of suburban location areas of Dublin, have expanded their pricing options to include a reduced monthly subscription and a pay-as-you-go option in addition to its standard €10 day ticket option.

The bikes are usual for Ireland compared to other bicycle share services as they must be returned to their docking stations which also charge the bicycles.

...I'm sorry to disrupt you while you're reading this article, but without messages like this, IrishCycle.com's reader-funded journalism won't survive. With 676k views so-far this year, it's not just "avid cyclists" that this website reaches. But the number of subscribers is around 0.6% of readers. This large gap between readers/subscribers is standard for non-paywall reader-supported journalism, but IrishCycle's journalism needs more support. Don't delay, support monthly or yearly today. Now, back to the article...

  • Pay-as-you-go: €1 for unlocking and then €0.15 per minute.
  • Full-day hire: €10 per day — remember to return it by midnight.
  • Monthly subscription: €15 per month allows for a discounted day fee of €3 per full-day hire.

The ESB system is a trial which is funded by the EU Interreg programme. Its stations and bicycles are operated by a mix of Bleeper bikes and Moby bikes.
